I think Iowa is an excellent state to live in. Iowa is one of our 50 states that we have here in the United States.
In Iowa, we are able to experience things that many other countries aren’t able to experience. Iowa has all four seasons spring, summer, winter, and fall.
Our springs vary between warm and cool weather. It may be raining; it may be sunny. You never know.
Summer is my favorite time of the year. Summer is the time to get out your flip flops and shorts out and start heading to the beach!
Winter on the other hand is way opposite! Our winters are cold and snowy. There is a good and bad about winter. The bad is I have to get up early and shovel the snow from our drive way. If it is really bad outside, we get to skip school which is called a snow day.
Fall is kind of a combination of winter and summer. The reason being it falls between the two seasons. Fall can be cool like winter yet warm like summer. It really just depends where you are at.
I love Iowa and I think that it is a pretty neat state! You should come visit and see for yourself!
I have looked at many blogs this week. I enjoyed reading them. I was told to pick out 3 favorite blogs. These were my 3 favorite.
I have read many other blogs, but these are the ones that I liked the best.
Note to all you bloggers out there to check out these great blogs. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did!
I’m in the Student Blogging Challenge and this is week one.
This quarter I read a very good book called “Sarah Plain and Tall”.
For my book project I have written a play that related to the book. It took some time, but I finished the play and had a great time doing it.
I had my friends perform in it. We had a fun time practicing and performing the play.
We have had three genius hours this year. I really enjoy genius hour. Genius hour teaches me new things and I have learned that we can all be geniuses and change the world. I hope to change the world with my genius.
This genius hour my friends Anna, Paige and I made a video about farm life.
We did many things in this video we rode four wheeler, fed chickens, rode horses, and many more.
We learned in our genius hour that we can learn and experiment new things about farm life.
For this month I read a book called the “Laundry News”. The “Landry news” was written by Andrew Clements. The book “Landry News” was about a girl named Cara Landry who loved to write. Cara had always wanted to be a journalist. Cara’s father had left her and her mother when Cara was little. Cara misses her father deeply and sometimes takes the anger out on her writing.
Cara is a 5th grader in Mr. Larson’s class. Mr. Larson is knows as a lazy teacher who does not teach anything. Most parents do not like their kids in Mr. Larson’s class because he does not teach the students anything. Mr. Larson believes that the students may teach them selves, rather then him teaching the students something that they would not wish to learn.
Cara got the idea to make a school newspaper called “Landry News”. Ever student in Mr. Larson’s class is apart of this paper. There was no trouble with this paper until, Cara published a story about a kid named Joey going through divorce. The principal, Mr. Barnes did not think that this story was acceptable about a kid’s own life and his family problems in a newspaper from Denton Elementary the school that he advices and runs.
Mr. Larson was in charge of this newspaper so that means Mr. Larson was at a risk of losing his job until, Joey announced to the principal that it was alright for Cara to publish the story about him and his family going through a divorce. Joey believed that it would make a great story.
I think that theme of this book is to care for others as much as yourself.
I enjoyed reading this book. This book taught me a life lesson.
For the past two weeks my classmates and I have been designing and painting a barn quilt. There are many steps into making a barn quilt. Here are the steps that we followed into making a our barn quilts.
First, you need to sand the plywood and then put a primer coat of white paint over top. The primer paint seals the wood and then you paint on the regular paint.

Next, we painted a border of black paint to make it look nice and sharp.

While we were waiting for the paint to dry, we started planning out our design. We were separated into four different groups. Each group picked a different design to design the barn quilt. You need to be sure you pick a design that works well with the rough wood.

To make the painting job easier, we used masking tape to guide us into the right direction where and what to paint.

One coat was not enough of paint. Some needed two or three coats.

After all was finished, we donated all the barn quilts to our school fundraiser. This was a great way to earn money for our school, and we enjoyed doing it.
